What are the benefits of using Paludrine & Avloclor?

Paludrine & Avloclor is a combination malaria treatment that provides effective protection against the most common malaria parasites. Using Paludrine & Avloclor might be a better prophylaxis treatment option for people who are sensitive to other anti-malarial medications such as Malarone or Doxycycline and who are intending on entering an area where the malaria parasite is still sensitive to the effects or chloroquine, such as India.

What is Paludrine & Avloclor?

Paludrine & Avloclor is a commonly used medication for malaria prevention. It has been proven to work in most areas where the malaria parasite hasn't built up a resistance to chloroquine. If taken correctly it can protect against most malaria parasites, preventing a full-blown malaria infection.

If you would like to ensure that you are protected on holiday then you have the option of ordering Paludrine & Avloclor from Meds4all. As this treatment is only suitable for a limited number of malaria areas, we ask all our patients to complete an online consultation when they place their order. The information provided within this consultation will help our doctor make sure that Paludrine & Avloclor is right for you to use so that you'll have cover when you are away on your trip.

How does Paludrine & Avloclor work?

Avloclor, also known as chloroquine phosphate, attacks the malaria parasite once it's inside the red blood cells, by weakening their defence against haemoglobin. This prevents the parasites from reaching large enough numbers to cause harm. The Paludrine (proguanil hydrochloride) in this treatment also attacks the parasites directly by preventing them from growing enough to infect new red blood cells.

Together these two treatments keep the parasite numbers down to the point where they simply die as a result of the body's natural defence mechanisms.

Who can use it?

If you are travelling to an area where malaria parasites are still sensitive to the effects of chloroquine, then you'll likely be able to use it just like Doxycycline. However, it's a good idea to mention to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have kidney problems, liver problems or epilepsy. You should not use this treatment if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the pack.

Some medications may be affected by the use of this anti-malarial treatment or vice versa, so make sure that you mention to your doctor if you are taking any other medications.

How should it be taken?

The Avloclor tablets should be taken differently to the Paludrine tablets, so it's important to remember to take each treatment at the correct time.

One Avloclor tablet should be taken once a week, while two Paludrine tablets should be taken every day. This regime should be started no later than seven days before you intend on arriving at your destination and should be continued for the entire duration of your stay, and for four weeks afterwards. It might be a good idea to set reminders to ensure that you take the tablets at exactly the same time you did the tablets before, and preferably after meals.

What are the side effects?

Common reactions to Paludrine & Avloclor might include diarrhoea, dyspepsia or itching although they rarely occur. Most of these effects can be avoided by taking the treatment after meals. If you experience anything more serious or lasting, seek medical help straight away.

Is it available to buy online?

Paludrine & Avloclor is available online from Meds4all to take as a preventative treatment for malaria. However, to help you make sure that this is the best possible treatment for you to use as a form of malaria prophylaxis, we ask you to complete an online consultation when you place an order. All consultation are reviewed by a registered doctor and prescriptions will be provided and sent to our pharmacy for dispatch. Should this treatment not be right for you to use, our doctor may make an alternative recommendation or decline the order, in which case no charge will be made.
